Worth reading the caution below before requesting it by name. Voluma's durability is an advantage when it's placed correctly and a considerable problem when it isn't.

Voluma is firm and lasts up to two years. In the right plane, on bone, in the right volume, that durability is the whole point.
Placed too superficially, or in too great a volume, it stays wrong for two years. The same cross-linking that gives it longevity means it doesn't soften, doesn't settle, and doesn't quietly resolve.
It's also the product most associated with the overfilled midface look — not because it's a bad product, but because it's the one people request by name after seeing a result online, and because it's frequently used to chase a look rather than restore a structure.
Firmer, more cross-linked products also take more enzyme to dissolve, and sometimes more than one session. More on dissolving.

Binds more water, so more initial swelling and more immediate fullness. Shorter duration.

VYCROSS is generally the better technology — but "lasts longer" cuts both ways. A product that persists for two years persists whether or not you're happy with it.
Which is why the older Hylacross products still have a place, particularly for patients new to filler or treating an area where the right amount is hard to judge in advance.
"Usually" is doing work in that table. Starting points, not rules — thin skin, an animated face, or unusual anatomy all shift the answer.
Worth knowing, since it's frequently discussed separately. SkinVive is part of the Juvéderm range, but it isn't a filler in the usual sense.
It's placed within the skin rather than beneath it, and improves hydration and smoothness without adding volume. Different job entirely — worth considering when the complaint is skin quality rather than structure.
The most common question, and the honest answer is that it matters less than most patients expect.
Both are hyaluronic acid. Both reverse with hyaluronidase. Both cover a similar span of firmness and flexibility across their ranges.
The technical difference is gel structure — Juvéderm uses a smooth, cohesive gel throughout, while Restylane traditionally uses a particulate NASHA gel or a more flexible OBT formulation. That affects how each behaves under pressure and in movement.
It's a real difference. It's also smaller than the difference between the right layer and the wrong one.

Voluma is requested by name more than any other product, usually from something a patient saw online. It's an excellent product. It's also the one I dissolve most, because a result you're unhappy with at two months is still there at eighteen. I'd rather have the conversation about whether it's the right choice than simply inject what was asked for.
