The upper trapezius runs from the base of the skull across the shoulders. When it's overdeveloped — from training, posture, stress, or genetics — it creates a bulky, sloped shoulder line and visually shortens the neck. Relaxing it softens that slope, which lengthens the neck and squares the shoulder line.

Two reasons patients book this, and most have both:

Aesthetic — a longer-looking neck, a straighter shoulder line, and better drape in open-neck and strapless clothing.

Functional — this is the muscle that holds chronic tension. Patients frequently report relief from persistent shoulder tightness, upper back stiffness, and tension headaches originating at the base of the skull.

What to expect: treatment takes about 20 minutes. Onset is gradual — softening begins around days 5 to 7 and reaches full effect at roughly two weeks. Visible slimming develops over several weeks as the muscle relaxes. Results typically last three to four months, sometimes longer with repeat treatment.

Worth knowing: the trapezius is a working muscle involved in shoulder elevation and posture. Appropriate dosing relaxes it without compromising function. Excessive dosing can cause temporary weakness or a heavy feeling in the shoulders — which is a dosing decision, and one reason this is performed by the physician rather than delegated.
