This combination is appropriate for Fitzpatrick skin types I through IV. Deeper skin tones carry a meaningfully higher baseline risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with ablative CO2.
For Fitzpatrick V and VI, an Erbium-based approach is generally safer — Erbium produces substantially less residual heat, which lowers pigmentation risk while still delivering ablative resurfacing.
Skin type is assessed before treatment. Dr. Mortazavi will recommend the alternative rather than proceeding and hoping.
Not appropriate with active acne, active cold sores, recent isotretinoin use, or a history of keloid scarring. Significant skin laxity is not treated by resurfacing — no laser removes excess tissue, and if loose skin is the primary concern, you need a surgeon rather than a series.
