A Non-Surgical Path to Volume and Shape

Not every patient wants, or is a good candidate for, a surgical Brazilian Butt Lift. Fat transfer BBLs require enough donor fat elsewhere on the body to harvest, general anesthesia, and a real recovery period. The Sculptra Butt Lift takes a different approach entirely — using poly-L-lactic acid injections to gradually stimulate your own body's collagen production in the gluteal region, building volume and improving contour over a series of sessions.

This isn't a filler that's injected and finished in one visit. It's a gradual biological process, similar to how Sculptra works on the face, applied to a much larger treatment area.

Sculptra BBL vs. Surgical BBL

Sculptra Butt Lift
  • No surgery, no general anesthesia
  • No donor fat required
  • Minimal downtime
  • Results build gradually over a series of sessions
  • Good option for lean patients without enough donor fat for fat transfer
Surgical BBL (Fat Transfer)
  • Requires surgery and general anesthesia
  • Requires sufficient donor fat from another area
  • Significant recovery time
  • More dramatic volume change possible in a single procedure
  • Carries surgical risks not present with injectable treatment

How It Works

01
Consultation and assessment
Dr. Mortazavi evaluates your gluteal structure, goals, and candidacy, and builds a customized session plan based on the volume and contour you're looking for.
02
Injection session
Sculptra is injected into the gluteal region with numbing for comfort. A single session typically takes 45–60 minutes.
03
Collagen building over weeks
Rather than immediate volume, your body gradually builds new collagen in the treated area over the following weeks.
04
Additional sessions as planned
Most patients require a series of sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, to reach their desired volume and shape.
05
Final result and maintenance
Visible lift and projection typically develop over 6–12 weeks per session, with full series results assessed after the complete plan is finished.
A Note on Volume
Sculptra BBL uses significantly more product than facial treatment.

Because the gluteal area covers so much more surface area than the face, a Sculptra Butt Lift typically requires substantially more total vials than facial Sculptra — often 10 to 20 or more across a full series. This is a genuinely different scale of treatment than facial volume restoration, and your session plan reflects that.

Who this is for: Patients seeking a subtle, natural-looking improvement in gluteal volume and contour without surgery — particularly lean patients who don't have enough donor fat elsewhere on their body for a fat transfer BBL, or anyone who prefers a gradual, non-surgical approach.

AM
Dr. Amir Mortazavi, MD — Plump Medical Spa, Newport Beach

Sculptra BBL is one of the more physically demanding procedures I perform, simply because of the volume of product and the precision needed across a larger area. I plan every session personally and adjust as the series progresses, rather than treating it as a fixed protocol applied the same way to every patient.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a Sculptra butt lift work?

Sculptra is injected into the gluteal region, where it gradually stimulates the body's own collagen production over a series of sessions. Unlike surgical options, it uses your own collagen rather than implants or fat transfer, resulting in gradual, natural-looking volume and contour improvement.

How is Sculptra BBL different from a surgical Brazilian Butt Lift?

A surgical BBL uses liposuction to harvest fat from another area of the body and transfers it to the buttocks, requiring general anesthesia and significant recovery time. Sculptra BBL is non-surgical, uses no fat transfer or implants, involves no significant downtime, and is well suited for patients who don't have enough donor fat for a surgical fat transfer.

How many Sculptra sessions does a butt lift require?

Sculptra butt lift treatment typically requires several sessions, often spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, using significantly more total product than facial treatment due to the larger surface area involved.

How long do Sculptra BBL results last?

Results from Sculptra BBL often last up to two years or longer, since the treatment builds your own collagen rather than adding a temporary filler substance.

Is Sculptra BBL right for lean patients who don't have donor fat?

Yes. Sculptra BBL is often a good option specifically for lean patients who don't have sufficient donor fat elsewhere on their body for a surgical fat transfer BBL, since it doesn't require harvesting fat from another area.
