The chin anchors the lower third of the face. When it sits back relative to the rest of the profile — from bone structure, or from resorption with age — the effects show up in places most patients don't connect to their chin.
The chin is the most under-recognised area in facial aesthetics.
Patients rarely arrive asking for chin treatment. They arrive with complaints that a recessed chin is producing:
"My nose looks big" — often the nose is fine and the chin doesn't balance it. In profile, the eye reads the relationship between nose, lips, and chin, not the nose alone.
"I have a double chin" — a recessed chin creates the appearance of submental fullness even when there isn't much fat there, because there's no forward projection to define the boundary between chin and neck.
"My jawline is undefined" — the jawline reads as a continuous line from ear to chin. If the front point of that line sits back, the sides can't compensate.
"My lips look disproportionate" — lips are judged relative to the chin below them. Well-balanced lips can read as too full when the chin doesn't support them, which is a common reason patients ask to dissolve lip filler that was never the problem.
A quick profile check. Take a photo of yourself from the side, relaxed. Draw an imaginary vertical line down from the border of your lower lip. If your chin sits noticeably behind that line, projection is likely part of what you're seeing.

Does: improve forward projection · lengthen a short chin · define the chin-to-neck boundary · improve profile balance · correct minor asymmetry
Doesn't: remove submental fat — that's Kybella or surgery · address significant skeletal deficiency, which is a surgical problem · fix jowling or laxity
Significant recession may be better served by a genioplasty or an implant. Filler is excellent for mild to moderate projection and profile refinement; it is not a substitute for skeletal correction, and Dr. Mortazavi will say so rather than treating toward a result filler can't produce.

What to expect: 20 to 30 minutes with numbing. Results visible immediately; true result at about two weeks once swelling resolves. Bruising is common. Duration typically 12 to 18 months — long, since the product is placed deep on bone where it's stable.
