Acne Scar Subcision

Subcision is a minor surgical procedure used for treating depressed cutaneous scars and wrinkles.

A Precise Solution for Deep Acne Scars

Subcision is a minimally invasive treatment that releases tethered acne scars by breaking up the fibrous bands beneath the skin. It’s especially effective for rolling scars, boxcar scars, and deep atrophic scars that don’t respond well to lasers or topicals.

At Plump Medical Spa, all subcision treatments are performed by Dr. Amir Mortazavi, MD, who uses advanced techniques to release scarring while preserving skin integrity.

How Subcision Works

Using a specialized needle or blunt cannula, Dr. Mortazavi precisely undermines the scar tissue, freeing it from the underlying skin and allowing the area to lift and regenerate. This creates space for collagen remodeling and can be paired with:

  • Sculptra or biostimulants

  • PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin)

  • Microneedling or lasers (in later sessions)

What to Expect:

  • In-office procedure, takes 30–45 minutes

  • Numbing is provided for comfort

  • Mild swelling and bruising for 3–5 days

  • Most clients need 1 to 3 sessions, depending on severity

Why Subcision?

  • Targets the root cause of deep scars

  • Can be used on all skin tones

  • Minimal downtime compared to aggressive lasers

  • Ideal for patients who have plateaued with other treatments
