Radiofrequency microneedling using the PiXel8 platform, performed personally by Dr. Amir Mortazavi, MD.
Insulated microneedles penetrate to a controlled depth, then deliver radiofrequency energy from the needle tips directly into the dermis. This produces two effects at once: the mechanical injury of microneedling, plus thermal collagen contraction and remodeling at depth.
The energy is delivered below the surface rather than through it. That's the defining advantage — meaningful dermal heating with the epidermis left largely intact, which is why RF microneedling has a substantially lower pigmentation risk than ablative laser.
Treats: mild to moderate skin laxity · acne scarring · rough or uneven texture · enlarged pore appearance · fine lines and early wrinkles · overall firmness and skin quality
PiXel8 vs. Morpheus8 — what's actually different.
Patients frequently ask, since Morpheus8 is the most heavily marketed name in this category.
They are the same category of technology. Both are insulated RF microneedling platforms delivering radiofrequency at adjustable depth through microneedles. Both remodel collagen the same way. Devices differ in needle configuration, depth range, and energy delivery specifics — but the underlying mechanism is identical.
What actually determines your result is the settings and the operator, not the brand on the handpiece. Depth, energy level, number of passes, and how those are matched to your skin type and concern are the treatment. A well-executed session on either platform outperforms a poorly executed one on the other.
Any practice telling you their device brand is the reason to choose them is selling you a name.
Where RF microneedling fits.
Microneedling — mechanical only, gentlest, minimal downtime. Early texture concerns.
RF microneedling — adds dermal heating. Meaningfully stronger for laxity and remodeling. This treatment.
CO2 resurfacing — ablative, strongest for surface texture and deep scarring, most downtime.
The honest limit: RF microneedling improves mild to moderate laxity. It does not replace a facelift. If you can grasp and lift loose skin, no energy device removes it, and Dr. Mortazavi will tell you that rather than selling you a series that can't deliver.
Strong option for deeper skin tones. Because energy is delivered below the epidermis rather than through it, RF microneedling carries lower post-inflammatory pigmentation risk than ablative laser — frequently the better choice where CO2 would be higher risk.
What to expect: 45 to 60 minutes with topical numbing. Expect redness and swelling for two to three days, with a grid-pattern texture visible for a day or two. Most patients are presentable by day three.
This is a series — typically three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Collagen remodeling continues for three to six months after the final session, so the result at one month is not the result.
Also available for the body — PiXel8 RF Body for abdomen, arms, and other areas.
